How To: It's Really No Contest LastPass Is the Best Password Manager for iPhone & Android
When traversing the web, you'll regularly come across websites that require you to create an account. With the majority of these accounts, protection is limited to a simple password. Despite this, many people are still using weak passwords such "123456." For these reasons, you really need a password manager, and our research has shown that LastPass is still your best bet.Besides the obvious bad passwords, many folks use passwords that are easy to remember, which unfortunately means they're also easy to guess. This problem compounds itself when you reuse this same password for multiple accounts, making them all susceptible to a breach. A password manager solves both of these problems, and several more.Whether you're on Android or iOS, there's no better choice for a password manager than LastPass. We recently did in-depth comparisons for the top managers on both major mobile operating systems, and LastPass came out on top both times. So below, I'll highlight just a few of the reasons LastPass stands out.Don't Miss: The 4 Best Password Managers for iPhone & iPad

Superior PricingLastPass is easily one of the cheapest premium password managers. While there is a free version, most of the features are behind a paywall. Luckily, LastPass's pricing is low enough that for many, paying the subscription fee won't be a problem. For a single-user, LastPass costs $24 a year. To put that in perspective, most of its competition charges around $8 more a year. And for families, LastPass has an even better deal. For $48 a year (or the price of two single-user accounts), you'll get access to all the premium features with six licenses. Finally, for those users who wish not to pay at all, the free version has one feature normally reserved for a premium account, cloud synchronization. Users can access their vault on whatever device they own with each copy of vault perfectly in sync with all the other copies.

Autofill Just WorksReally, password managers are only useful as long as they're convenient. Some apps will make you log into the password manager, then find the account within the database, copy the username, open the app you want to sign into, paste the username, return to the manager, copy the password, return to the app, and paste the password. However, this process is a lot easier when your password manager has a good autofill feature. For iOS users, LastPass uses Share Sheets to make autofill possible. Simply tap the share button from the login page in any compatible app, then select LastPass, which will find the text boxes and autofill the information. Using this method, users can autofill both in their apps and in their browsers. For Android, there are two methods that depend on the version of Android you are using. For the majority of users who run an outdated version of Android (Nougat and older), LastPass autofills using an Accessibility Service. However, for people running Android 8.0 or higher, autofill is even easier. Users only need to choose LastPass as their autofill service of choice, then passwords from their vault will be populated into login fields.

Security Is Top-NotchOne of the most important criteria when comparing password managers is security. No matter how convenient a manager is, if your vault isn't properly secured, you are more vulnerable than if you didn't use a password manager in the first place. Fortunately, most password managers use the latest encryption standards, but what gives LastPass an edge is its wide support for multi-factor authentication.Muti-factor authentication is when an app or service requires more than just your password to log in. The idea is that a hacker can learn your password (especially if it is weak) and gain full access to your account. However, if you enable an additional layer of security, such as a one-time password that gets sent to your phone number via SMS, hackers would need to hack that as well to gain access. One of the most popular forms of this security measure is a third-party authenticator. This is a separate app or service that will receive your one-time password, which you'll then have to enter in addition to your regular user name or password before you can log in. With LastPass, there's an abundance of app-based and software-based authenticators to choose from. All the major app-based authenticators are available, including Google Authenticator (Android and iOS), and Authy (Android and iOS). In addition, LastPass supports hardware-based options such as YubiKey, which require you to physically have something in order to log in to your account. Finally, LastPass has a zero-knowledge policy. LastPass doesn't know, transfer, or store your master password. Since encryption of your vault is based on your master password, this means even LastPass themselves can never access your vault. Therefore, even if LastPass was hacked, your database won't be compromised, as the hackers would need to know your master password to unlock it.

Security Challenge Helps Keep Your Passwords StrongThe integrity of any password depends both on the strength of the password and its age. For example, a strong password loses its strength if the same password is used for several years. The longer the password is used, the greater the amount of time a hacker has to reveal it. A general recommendation is to change your password every 90 to 180 days. While this is difficult to accomplish on your own, LastPass makes it easy.LastPass' Security Challenge audits your passwords (including your master password) and grades the overall security of your vault using a 0-100% scaling. LastPass' grading is based on the strength of each password, how often you repeat password, and the average age of each one. After evaluation, LastPass provides suggestions to improve your score. The numerical scoring does two things: It provides a measurable goal which users can try to achieve and offers an easy-to-understand analysis of the strength of your passwords.

Extra Features Add ValueLastPass includes an abundance of features that, while perhaps not essential to the basic functionality of a password manager, enhance the experience in a way that makes them quite valuable. One such feature is shareable passwords. Especially for business accounts and families, users want to be able to share a password with another trusted individual. Instead of having to hound the owner of the account for their credentials every time they want to log in, users can share passwords (both individually or as a group) to authorized individuals and control the way those individuals use them. Another major feature is Emergency Access, which lets you provide account access to a list of trusted loved ones in the event you become unable to manage your own accounts (such as death). For more information on this thoughtful feature, check out the link below.Don't Miss: When Happens to Your Password When You Die? In this day of age, not using a password manager is dangerous. It provides one of the best counters to hacking, minimizing the risk of your data becoming compromised. No software is perfectly secured, so you should expect that a hack could happen at any moment. With a password manager, you have another great tool at your disposal to combat against this. After thoroughly testing the most popular password managers, we concluded that LastPass reigns supreme no matter which side the mobile OS fence you're on. LastPass' combination of low pricing, great features, and a secure platform makes it the ideal choice for any mobile users. Which password manager are you using? How To: The Galaxy S8's 'Adapt Sound' Feature Makes Your AKG Headphones Actually Sound Premium
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ come with a set of AKG-tuned earbuds that would cost you $99 by themselves. Unfortunately, the earbuds alone don't automatically translate to superior sound, and they've been met with lukewarm reception. But as it turns out, there's a fairly hidden menu on Samsung's flagships that'll give you a tailor-made audio experience and help you get the most out of your S8-AKG pairing.A feature called Adapt Sound is buried pretty deep in Settings, but it's definitley worth digging into. It basically runs a hearing test to provide a personalized sound profile that matches your hearing perfectly. Once you've run the test, the sound output from any set of headphones will be adjusted to fit you — so if you're interested in fine-tuning your Galaxy S8's audio, keep on reading to find out how.Don't Miss: The 4 Best Phones for Music Lovers & Audiophiles

Step 1: Find the 'Adapt Sound' MenuTo get started, head to your phone's main Settings menu, then tap on "Sounds and vibration." From there, scroll down and select "Sound quality and effects" near the bottom of the menu. Don't Miss: Fix Screen Burn-In on Your Galaxy S8 (& Prevent It from Happening Again)Next, tap the "Adapt Sound" option towards the bottom of the screen, then you'll be asked to grant an additional permission, so press "Allow" on the popup. From there, leave the preset options turned off, then select "Personalize sound."

Step 2: Take the Hearing TestNow, head to a quiet place and plug in your headphones. When you're ready, tap on the "Start" button to initiate the test. Adapt Sound will now emit a series of beeps of varying frequencies from the left and right earbuds, and along the way, it'll ask if you can hear each tone.Take your time and answer honestly until the test reaches 100%. As you go along you'll notice that your phone is creating a personalized equalizer tailored to each ear. Once the process is completed, it's time to move on to the final step.

Step 3: Finalize Your Audio ProfileUpon completion of the test, Adapt Sound will ask for you to select which ear you'd like to hear your phone calls in. Once you've chosen your preference, your newly created custom audio profile will be activated and made available for preview. So tap on "Preview" and check out the difference Adapt Sound makes by toggling between "Personalized" and "Original." Of course, we recommend playing your favorite song to determine exactly how much of an impact Adapt Sound made on sound quality. We're willing to be it'll be like night and day — particularly if your hearing wasn't perfect to being with. As always, feel free to leave a comment below and share your thoughts on this obscure sound setting.Don't Miss: How to Change the DPI on Your Galaxy S8 — No Root NeededFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Android Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+

News: How to Try Google's New Fuchsia OS on Your Android Right Now
Google's working on a new mobile operating system called Fuchsia, and while we don't know much about how they intend to use it, we're now getting a glimpse at what the main interface will look like.First, let's talk about what we do know about Fuchsia. It's a mobile operating system, and it uses Google's own Flutter SDK for its apps and UI. And unlike Android or Chrome OS, Fuchsia uses a microkernel instead of the full Linux kernel. Microkernels are perhaps the future of mobile operating systems, as they have the potential to bring faster performance and better battery life.Considering what we know, it's not much of a leap to think that Google might envision Fuchsia as a replacement for Android and/or Chrome OS at some point down the line. But this is obviously not confirmed, and really, nobody outside of Mountain View knows what Google plans to do with Fuchsia. In the meantime, though, Kyle Bradshaw at Hotfix outlined a method for pulling the main UI files from Google's Fuchsia Github page and building them into an APK that can be installed on most Android devices. He even took things a step further and put the APK up for download, which means that if you'd like to get a glimpse of what Google's been doing with Fuchsia, you only need to install a simple app.Don't Miss: 26 Cool New Features & Changes Coming in Android O

Step 1: Download ArmadilloTo try this out, make sure "Unkown Sources" is enabled, then tap the following link to download the "Armadillo" APK, which is Fuchsia's main UI bundled into a package that works on Android. From there, tap the Download complete notification, then simply press "Install" when prompted.Download the Fuchsia/Armadillo APK

Step 2: Try Out Fuchsia's Main UINext, just open the Armadillo app to see exactly what Fuchsia's main UI is looking like at this point in its development process. There's a Google Now-style card-based interface that scrolls vertically, with several empty placeholder cards that you can tap. You can also swipe up from the bottom of this list view to access what looks like a Google Assistant interface, and everything has a nice Material Design animation when you interact with elements. Do keep in mind that Armadillo is only the SystemUI portion of Fuchsia, an operating system that's very much in the early stages of development. The interface will most likely change in the near future since Google hasn't made any official announcements regarding Fuchsia, meaning nothing's concrete. But it's nice to see that Fuchsia has a completely new take on mobile interfaces — at least, it's completely different from Android. What do you guys think? Does Fuchsia's interface show promise? Will Google ever announce plans to phase out Android in favor of Fuchsia, or is this just a Moonshot-like experiment? News: High Heart Rate Warning on Your Apple Watch? Here's What That Means

Your Apple Watch sends you notifications from friends, family, and the apps that are important to you. Occasionally, however, the watch may scare the heck out of you with a notification warning of an abnormal, elevated heart rate. If you have no history of heart conditions, this alert might come as a shock. Why do you have a high heart rate, and what are you to do with the information?Your pulse is the number of times your heart beats per minute, and that's what we're talking about when referring to heart rate. While heart rates will vary from individual to individual, a good resting heart rate — when your heart is pumping the least amount of blood needed during inactive periods — will generally fall between 60 and 100 beats per minute (bpm). An active heart rate is when you're exercising and blood is pumping faster, with a recommended target for vigorous activity anywhere between 100 to 175 bpm based on age.Don't Miss: How to Cheat Your Apple Watch Rings When determining if you have a high heart rate, your Apple Watch uses the resting period only, which is also used to help determine other abnormalities such as low or irregular heartbeats. While it's comforting to know our watches are always looking out for our heart health, these warnings can be quite intimidating. However, they've saved lives, as some lucky users who receive the warnings discover heart issues they were not aware of before.Note: this article is not meant to diagnose or give medical advice. If you are concerned about your health, please seek medical attention.
How the Apple Watch Tracks Heart RateTo measure your heart rate, the Apple Watch uses its optical heart sensor, which is made up of light-sensitive photodiode sensors paired with a number of green and infrared LEDs. The green LEDs are used to measure your heart rate during workouts and other activity, while the infrared LEDs focus on the resting heart rate in the background when you're inactive. The Infrared LEDs are the lights we want to focus on since your Apple Watch only looks for abnormal heart rates during periods of inactivity. As your watch detects a lack of movement, the infrared LEDs kick on, scanning your heart rate at irregular intervals.Upgrade Your Apple Watch: See Deals from Amazon | Apple | Best Buy | WalmartThere is no definitive answer to how often your Apple Watch tracks your heart rate during the day, but we do know the watch aims to detect abnormal heart rates during 10 minute-long periods. If the watch detects a heart rate above the default 120 bpm during this period of inactivity, you receive the notification.

Where to Find Heart Rate Notification HistoryIf you just received a heart rate notification, you'll see it on your watch's Notification Center. However, if you dismiss this notification, it isn't gone for good. The Health app keeps a complete database of every heart rate notification you receive, not just the high heart rates. To view these notifications, open the Health app, then tap the "Health Data" tab at the bottom. Select "Heart," then tap "High Heart Rate Notifications" to view your history.

What's Your Heart Rate Threshold? In general, a healthy adult's heart rate should not rise above 100 bpm when resting. With that in mind, according to Dr. Daniel Cantillon, the research director of cardiac electrophysiology and pacing at Cleveland Clinic, a resting heart rate of even 100 bpm is still very high. Nevertheless, Apple gives users six different bpm thresholds to choose from. As mentioned above, the threshold is set to 120 by default, but if this is too high or low for your experience, you can quickly change it.Don't Miss: What the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification Means To view and change your bpm threshold, open the Watch app on your iPhone, then tap "Heart." Select "High Heart Rate," then choose your bpm from the list.
What Could My High Heart Rate Alert Mean? Before your high heart rate notification stirs you into a panic, know this — there are many reasons why your heart rate could have been high during a 10-minute interval. According to the American Heart Association, there are three main arrhythmia diagnoses behind high heart rates, listed below. And they all involve the sinoatrial node, the heart's natural pacemaker, a bundle of neurons that fires electrical impulses regularly to create the heart's rhythm during resting periods. Those electrical signals are what causes the heart's muscles to contract rhythmically, which pumps the blood to the rest of the body.
1. Sinus TachycardiaSinus tachycardia is the result of the sinoatrial node firing electrical signals faster than it should. In many cases, it, unlike the other two diagnoses on this list, is "normal" and is a response to certain common triggers. It can be caused by anxiety, fright, emotional distress, fever, or certain drugs. However, in more severe situations, sinus tachycardia can be caused by anemia, increased thyroid activity, heart muscle damage from a heart attack or heart failure, and severe bleeding.
2. Supraventricular TachycardiaSupraventricular tachycardia, or SVT, is a heart condition where electrical signals in the upper chambers of the heart fire irregularly, clashing with the signals from the sinoatrial node, causing the heart rate in general to increase. Most at risk are children, women, anxious young people, people that are physically drained, people who consume high volumes of caffeine, people who consume high volumes of alcohol, and frequent smokers.Look out for fainting; lightheadedness; dizziness; heart palpitations; rapid heartbeat; heart fluttering; pounding pulse; tightness, pain, or pressure in your chest; shortness of breath; or unconsciousness — these are all symptoms of SVT. In extreme situations, SVT can result in cardiac arrest.
3. Ventricular TachycardiaVentricular tachycardia occurs when the electrical pathways in lower chambers of the heart, rather than the upper chambers, take over the sinoatrial node's role as the pacemaker. Since the path of electrical signals is taking a different route, it causes irregularities in the heartbeat. It can be caused by various reasons, including:Not enough blood flow to the heart's muscles, which prevents oxygen from reaching heart tissue; Cardiomyopathy, a weakness in the heart's muscles which messes with its structure; Medication, some of which can interfere with the heart's electrical signals; Certain illegal drugs, which can also interfere with the heart's electrical signals; Sarcoidosis, where collections of inflammatory cells form lumps in different organs in the body, in this case, the heart. Watch out for dizziness, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, nausea, lightheadedness, unconsciousness, and, in severe cases, cardiac arrest.
So, Should You See a Doctor? The fact of the matter is this: your Apple Watch is not a medical device. It cannot be relied upon to diagnose heart conditions or tell you whether or not to seek medical attention. What it can do is detect a heart rate while at rest that is higher than the threshold you set, which can help you make an informed decision.Could a single warning be triggered because you were watching a scary movie? Of course. Could there be a more serious reason for an elevated heart rate? Possibly. It's good to keep track of your heart rate notifications and note whether you know what caused them, such as getting spooked, so you have an idea of the ones that matter. With the Apple Watch stats in hand showing you an obvious pattern of high heart rhythm, in combination with any symptoms as mentioned above or if you have a family history of heart disease, it's probably wise to contact your primary care physician to see what the next steps are. You should always seek medical advice or attention from professionals if you're ever concerned about your health. This article was produced during Gadget Hacks' annual Health & Fitness special coverage. How To: Control When the Alarm Icon Shows Up in the Status Bar on Your Samsung Galaxy S4

How To: Control When the Alarm Icon Shows Up in the Status Bar on Your Samsung Galaxy S4

One of the things I hate most about Android's alarm clock is that you get the alarm icon in your status bar way ahead of time. Regardless of whether the alarm is in five minutes, five hours, or five days, that icon just sits in your status bar.If you have a recurring alarm to wake up for work during the week, it must get really annoying on the weekends. Whenever you look at your phone, that alarm icon will be there, needlessly reminding you of your inevitable return to work in three days. Image via wonderhowto.com Thankfully, there's an Xposed module that we can use to prevent the icon from showing up too early.
Before ProceedingYou'll need a Samsung Galaxy S4 with the Xposed framework installed. Don't have Xposed yet? Check out my full tutorial on installing Xposed. It's pretty easy, and once it's installed, you open up your GS4 to countless customizations. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
Step 1: Back Up Your DataAs a precaution, you should create a full nandroid backup using your recovery (either ClockworkMod or TWRP). If you don't have a custom recovery, you should back up as much stuff as you can. The very popular Titanium Backup gets the job done in backing up all your apps and system data.

Step 2: Enable Unknown SourcesIf you haven't done this through previous softModder guides, it's really easy. Just tap on your GS4's menu button, go to Settings -> More -> Security, and under Device administration, make sure Unknown sources is checked. Now we can install apps from outside the Google Play Store.
Step 3: Download 'Smart Alarm Icon'We'll be using an Xposed module called Smart Alarm Icon, developed by XDA's Mantelinho. You can download the .apk file onto your phone using this link (version 1.2). To make sure you're getting the most recent version of this mod, visit Mantelinho's thread.

Step 4: Run the InstallerOnce it's downloaded, you'll see a Download complete alert in your Notification tray. Tap on it to start the installer. Tap Install on the bottom right, then once it's finished tap Done

Step 5: Activate the ModuleAfter it's installed you'll receive a notification from Xposed telling you that the module isn't activated yet. To activate it, tap on the notification to go to Xposed Modules page. Make sure the box next to Smart Alarm Icon is checked, then reboot your phone for changes to go into effect.

Step 6: Set Your PreferenceOnce your GS4 has been rebooted, open up Xposed, head back to the Modules page, then tap on Smart Alarm Icon. You'll see a slider which you can use to specify how early you want the alarm icon to show up. You can choose Never, Always, or anywhere between 1 and 48 hours. I like to have it at 12 hours, which I think is a reasonable amount of time.Once you exit the screen, the changes will take effect. No more alarm icons showing up extra early! If you have any questions, comments, or Xposed module recommendations, feel free to leave them in the discussion section below.

How To: Automatically Disable Distractions on Your Mac for a Productivity Boost

How To: Automatically Disable Distractions on Your Mac for a Productivity Boost
Getting things done isn't easy when you're bombarded with alert sounds and notifications all day long on your Mac. Here's how you can quickly remove those distractions with just a single click.
Step 1: Download the Automator AppsThis part is pretty easy. Just click here to download the apps.

Step 2: Learn How It WorksWhen you unzip the downloaded file, you'll notice that there are actually two Automator apps inside: Enable Quiet Hours and Disable Quiet Hours.Running the enable app will mute your Mac's volume and turn on Do Not Disturb mode so you don't see any notifications. The disable app will reverse those settings (although the Notification Center icon in the menu bar may remain gray regardless).Simply run the enable app when you want to focus on work and run the disable app when you can handle distractions again. Note: If you have trouble running the app for the first time, your security settings for installing apps in Mac OS X probably blocked it, so make sure to change your Gatekeeper settings or allow a one-time exception.

Step 3: Schedule Your Quiet Hours (Optional)If you want to take automation a step further, you can schedule quiet hours using Calendar—the built-in app that comes with your Mac. This is useful if you know you need to focus from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (for example) and don't want to bother remembering to disable distractions during that time.To do this, you need to open Calendar (found in the Applications folder on your Mac) and schedule an event at 9:00 AM (or whenever you want your quiet hours to begin). You can set any end time you like. Next, click the "alert" drop-down menu and choose "Custom..." from the options. A small box will pop up with more choices. From the first drop-down menu, choose "Open file." This will let you select any file or application on your hard drive. You want to choose the Enable Quiet Hours app so it runs at 9:00 AM. Once you've set this up, make sure you set the run time to "At time of event" so quiet hours isn't run too early or too late. When you're finished, your event should look like this: Click "OK" to accept your alert settings. If you want this action to repeat, make sure you edit the repeat settings on your event so that this alert happens every day, weekday, or whenever you prefer. When finished, click outside of the event window to dismiss it and repeat this process for the Disable Quiet Hours app (for the time you'd like quiet hours to end). That's all you have to do. If things change, you can always edit your events in Calendar to schedule your distraction-free quiet hours for a different time.

Step 1: Install SnapAllHead into the Xposed Installer app to search and download "SnapAll." Alternatively, you can download the mod from the Xposed Repository online.

How To: Control What Your Friends See About You in Their Facebook Tickers

How To: Control What Your Friends See About You in Their Facebook Tickers

Not everything that Facebook does is in the best interest of its users. Just look at past examples such as social ads, facial recognition, and instant personalization. Users were perfectly fine without these, and they still are. And now there's another annoying problem that Facebook users have to deal with—the ticker.Facebook's ticker is that annoying updates box on the right-hand side of your account. It updates in real time, showing you all of your friends' current activity. This means you see everything your friends are doing on Facebook, including status updates, new friendships, fresh photos and videos, added links, page likes, game progress, and comments on everything there is to comment on. Right now, the ticker only appears when you're on the News Feed, and it hasn't invaded the right side of your personal account page yet. But still, some people just don't like this new addition to Facebook. The good thing? It's not really showing anything that wasn't available before, which means it's not that much different than the actual News Feed. You can hide stories and friends just like you can from the News Feed, and anything you will or already have hidden from your News Feed applies to the new ticker. The only real difference is that it shows real time activity. The bad? It's constant updating is a distraction and it shows everything your friends allow you to see, and reveals everything you do to your friends. And worst off... you can't remove it. But what if you just want to trash the whole ticker? You can't, but there are some ways to lessen the impact of it, in your eyes and in others'.
What Your Friends See About YouIf you want to control how your friends see you in their tickers, this is as good as it gets...

Step 1: Post Privacy SettingsTo stop everything you share on Facebook from showing up in your friends' tickers, you'll need to make sure your privacy settings are strict. The only way to actually do this is on a post-by-post basis. If you're updating your status, make sure to click the option by the "Post" button to change it to your liking, say from "public" to just "friends" only, or to just one of your lists. You can even set it to your eyes only with the "custom" option. If you post something with the "public" option checked, then it will show up in your friends' tickers, and possibly in the tickers of your friends of friends. If you don't want that, make sure to use the customize option. It's definitely a hassle, but the only surefire way to make sure you control what people see about you in their tickers. At least, when it comes to items you post.

Step 2: Commenting and LikingUnfortunately, whenever you comment on somebody's post or like somebody's photo, it's fair game for the News Feed and ticker, as well as your timeline. You have no way of controlling your comments and likes on others' content, but it does abide by whatever was set by the original poster. So, before you comment or like something, make sure to hover over that little gray head (if set to certain friends) or the little gray world (if set to public) by the time stamp to see who can view that post. If you're not comfortable with those settings, then don't comment or like it. And remember, it only shows up on whatever was set, meaning your friends will not see the activity in their tickers unless they can already see the original post. And also beware: Every post you make on a public fan page will show up in all of your friends' tickers, because fan pages are public by default, meaning this information is accessible to anyone on Facebook.

Step 3: Games and AppsAside from the news ticker, there's also a ticker specifically for apps, which shows the games and app activity of your friends in your ticker. That means the information you allow others to see when you're playing a game or messing around on an app will be visible in others' tickers while they're using an app. To be set specific guidelines about who can see posts and activities from your apps, you'll have to manage them individually by going to your App Settings. Click on the app you want to check and adjust your privacy settings in the "App activity privacy" section. You can set it to Public, Friends of Friends, Friends, and more, as well as customize it. You can set these options for each app. If you choose "Only Me" under the Customize option, then nobody will ever see your interaction with an app except you. You can also control how this data is shared outside of the apps ticker, whenever you're using a game or app and it asks you to share something with friends or post on your wall, just say no.
Step 4: Future TimelineYou can't see your own activity in the ticker, which makes it hard to know exactly what you're sharing, but the upcoming Timeline feature Facebook will be rolling out in a few weeks will let you see what you've been up to on Facebook, giving you a chance to fix any problems. You can get the Timeline feature now if you'd like using Mashable's instructions, but it's probably best if you just wait it out.
What You See About Your FriendsIf you just can't stand the ticker box, these are your only options for removing it, but remember, this does not affect what others see about you in their tickers. For that, you have to use the above options. Travis Gafford already shared how to hide the Facebook news ticker using the Unannoying Facebook extension in Chrome and the F.B. Purity extension in Firefox. Those work great, but here are some other options for you...
Step 5: In Google ChromeIf you're using the Google Chrome web browser, then it's really easy to hide the Facebook ticker. Just go to ealize's free Hide Facebook SideBar Ticker extension in the Chrome Web Store and add it to your Chrome browser. As soon as it's installed, go back to Facebook and check it out. There should be a big blank spot where the ticker used to be.There are also other Chrome extensions that work, like Facebook News Ticker Remover, Disable FB Sidebar Ticker - Ticker Disabler, and Facebook News Ticker Remover.

Step 6: In FirefoxIf you're using the Firefox web browser, then it's as simple as adding the Facebook Ticker Removal extension to your browser. If you don't want to use this Firefox Add-on, you can also install the Stylish Add-on, and then search for the userscript called Facebook Ticker Remover in userstyles, then install using the "Install with Stylish" button.

Step 7: In Both Chrome and FirefoxAnother way to disable the ticker is with AdBlock Plus, and it works in both Google Chrome and Firefox. Just install the AdBlock Plus extension and go to its preferences and...Click on "Add Filter". Paste in apps.facebook.com##DIV[class="homeFixedTicker"] If that didn't work... try facebook.com###pagelet_rhc_ticker And that's it. To get rid of the app ticker...Click on "Add Filter". Paste in apps.facebook.com##DIV[class="fixedAux"] The good thing about using AdBlock Plus for this is that all of the ads, including Sponsored Ads, will be wiped away clean. If some of these options don't work for you, or if you have a better idea for limiting the ticker in Facebook, let us know in the comments below. How To: Access the Home Screen on the iPhone X, XS, XS Max & XR

Is the Home button the main reason you haven't pulled the trigger on a new iPhone X, XS, XS Max, or XR? Are you worried that you'll miss its functionality too much, or that simple things like accessing your home screen will be too hard? Well, don't worry about any of that, because Apple came up with some intuitive gestures that will make the old Home button seem clunky and outdated once you get used to things.Apple knows their customers want a beautiful phone that is still easy to use. They've delivered a genuinely new device (compared to other recent iPhones), and the minimal bezels are at the heart of this cutting-edge design. So the Home button had to go, but thankfully, they turned all of its essential functions into simple swipes of the screen.Don't Miss: Use the App Switcher on the iPhone X, XS, XS Max & XR To access the home screen on the iPhone X, XS, XS Max, and XR, swipe up from the very bottom portion of the screen where the thin bar is, then watch the animation of the app returning to the home screen. If you're on the same home screen page that the app you're swiping away is on, it will return to its own icon. Pretty neat, right? It's like you're swiping the app back to where it belongs. Using the new Home gesture on the iPhone X and newer. Likewise, if you're on the lock screen, you just swipe up from the bottom of the screen to go home or to whatever app you were in last. You will have to enter your Face ID or passcode to continue, of course, if those are set up.Now, I know you're wondering about Control Center. Apple has changed how you access your system toggles and other quick settings since this new swipe-to-go-home gesture took over for the old method for accessing the Control Center. But it's still pretty easy — just check out our full guide on accessing the Control Center to see how it's done.Let us know how you feel about the new method for accessing the home screen. Do you love it or hate it? Will this prevent you from getting your hands on a new iPhone X, XS, XS Max, or XR? Tell us all about it in the comment section below.Don't Miss: 100+ Coolest New iOS 12 Features You Didn't Know AboutFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

How To: Upgrade Your OnePlus 3 or 3T with a Better Camera for Higher Quality Pictures & Videos
Despite packing some really nice camera specs, the OnePlus 3 and 3T don't take the best pictures. That's because, these days, great software is just as important as great hardware when it comes to image quality.Qualcomm, who made the processors for the OnePlus 3 and 3T, has a terrific camera app called Snapdragon Camera. It was created specifically for devices that use Qualcomm's image signal processor, so it can tie hardware and software together in a way that results in better photos all around on supported phones. But the Snapdragon Camera isn't officially available for OnePlus devices. To fix this, developer nvertigo67 has ported Qualcomm's camera app to work on the OnePlus 3 and 3T. Bottom line, this mod fixes grainy images, improves focus accuracy, and has just about as many features as the stock OxygenOS camera.Don't Miss: How to Root Your OnePlus 3 or 3T & Install TWRP Recovery
Requirementsrooted OnePlus 3 or 3T TWRP installed stock firmware or OxygenOS-based custom ROM installed

Step 1: Download Snapdragon CameraTo start off, you'll need to download the TWRP flashable Snapdragon Camera ZIP. So go ahead and tap the link below from your OnePlus 3 or 3T to grab it.Download the Snapdragon Camera ZIP for OnePlus 3 & 3T (.zip)

Step 2: Reboot to TWRP & Install Snapdragon CameraNext, reboot to TWRP by holding down the power button and selecting reboot, then tapping on "Recovery." Once you've rebooted to TWRP, it's always smart to create a NANDroid backup first. This way, you'll be protected in case something goes wrong while flashing the ZIP.After you've created your NANDroid, go back to the TWRP main menu and press the "Install" button. Navigate to your Downloads folder, and select the previously downloaded ZIP. Then, slide the bottom bar to confirm the flash and begin the Snapdragon Camera installation. Tap "Reboot system" when it's done installing to wrap things up.

Step 3: Grant PermissionsBefore you can use the Snapdragon Camera, you'll have to grant a couple of permissions so that the app is able to access the hardware and software it needs to function. To do so, head to the Apps menu in Settings, then select "Snapdragon Camera." Next, tap "App Permissions," then grant at least the "Camera," "Microphone," and "Storage" permissions. You can also grant the "Location" permission if you want to geotag your shots. The "Contacts" permission is there if you would like to share your photographs after taking them, but both of these permissions are optional.

Step 4: Enjoy Your New CameraAfter you're done granting permissions, go ahead and try out the Snapdragon Camera. Be sure to look at the welcome screen to learn where everything is. Take a shot or two and you'll immediately notice that the picture quality is better overall and a lot less grainy. Not only that, the Snapdragon camera takes shots with a better aspect ratio and captures a lot more detail with vividly true colors. Welcome screen (1); shot taken with stock camera (2); shot taken with Snapdragon Camera (3). To top it all off, the Snapdragon Camera also has over a dozen finely tuned modes covering all possible moments and situations. There's more than enough filters to make everyone happy, and the Settings menu gives you a decent amount of options to play around with (a lot more than on the Oxygen OS Camera). Some of the modes (1), settings (2), and filters (3) available in Snapdragon Camera. How are you liking your new camera app? News: The Galaxy S10 Doesn't Have a Notification LED Here's Why

News: The Galaxy S10 Doesn't Have a Notification LED Here's Why
Samsung just announced the Galaxy S10 lineup, but we already knew each device's every nook and cranny. Thanks to leaks and hands-on demos, we know the OEM kept the coveted headphone jack, but omitted one treasured feature in its place — the notification LED. Why did Samsung strip the S10 of this light, and can users expect something to replace it?Notification LEDs have been an integral part of Samsung devices for years. Android fans might not remember a time before these lights, and for good reason — they're super cool. Notification LEDs offer an easy, unintrusive way to know whether or not you have alerts on your phone. No sounds, no light-up displays, just a small, convenient blink.Don't Miss: All You Need to Know About the Galaxy S10 Lineup Then why get rid of it? Well, it most likely isn't an intentional omission, at least not in the sense of, say, an outdated port. Rather, the notification LED is simply a casualty of Samsung's bold new design. In order to create that seamless edge-to-edge infinity display, something had to give. You can't have a traditional notification LED when the space it needs to take up is currently occupied by that coveted screen real estate.Undoubtedly, long-time fans will be disappointed. While they can still boast over most of the smartphone world with their intact headphone jacks, the new S10 is just another device to lose the notification LED.So, where do we go from here? Well, perhaps around the display. Samsung's Edge Lighting is much like a notification LED, except instead of being one single light, the entire border of the display lights up. While the feature only works while interacting with your phone, it's a cool replacement for notification popups, and offers a lot in the way of user customization. Those who know Edge Lighting's past limitations should find comfort that Samsung has updated the feature with One UI. Still, it's not quite a true replacement for the simple nature of the notification LED. Hopefully, Samsung includes an always-on display version of the notification LED, or, better yet, utilizes the ring light around the selfie camera as a notification LED. Sadly, there are no official plans for either of these replacements at this time.Don't Miss: Galaxy Devices Are Getting Better Edge LightingFollow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard
