News: New Siri Bug Lets Anyone Bypass Your Lock Screen to See Photos & Contacts
A new iPhone exploit has recently been discovered by YouTube user videosdebarraquito, who has found many other exploits and bugs in iOS over the years. This new exploit allows someone to bypass the lock screen and gain access to contacts and photos via Siri, Apple's digital voice assistant—but it only affects the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus because it requires 3D Touch functionality.
How to Access the BugAs you can see in the video above from EverythingApplePro, the first step in the flaw begins with asking Siri to search Twitter for an email address (Gmail was the primary example used, but it works for any email address). Once the results pop up on screen, the next step is to find one with a valid email address and use "force touch" to bring up the menu. Once you select the "Add Existing Contact" option, you now obtain access to all of the contacts stored on the phone—without a passcode or Touch ID.Another part of this flaw occurs when you select the "Create a New Contact" option in the same menu after using the 3D Touch feature. Once chosen, you can then add a new picture to the contact, thereby obtaining access to all of the photos on the device.
How to Fix ItThankfully, there's a two-step process that you have available to fix this latest issue. First, go into your Settings, then select the Privacy tab and choose Photos. Then disable Siri's access from there if it's present. This keeps would-be intruders out of your pictures.The second step is to then go back into Settings, then select Touch ID & Passcode. When there's a certain obscure or underground band that I want to listen to, I'm relegated to using YouTube as my main music player source.While YouTube has an extraordinary collection of songs, there's one considerable problem with listening to music directly from YouTube on your smartphone—you can't exit and keep listening. If you leave the YouTube app or turn of the screen off while the video is playing, it will abruptly stop.In this Gadget Hacks guide, I'm going to show you a couple of quick tricks in iOS 8 you can use to get around this issue and keep your music playing without having to stay in the YouTube app itself.

Method #1: Use Safari to Play YouTube in the BackgroundFor this method, we'll be using Safari to play YouTube in the background. Unfortunately, you'll need to delete the YouTube app from your iOS device for this to work. If you keep the YouTube app on your device, any time you try to watch a video on Safari, you'll be redirected to the YouTube app where you won't be able to play it in the background.Go to YouTube's site in Safari, find the video that you want, then play it. Wait until the video goes fullscreen and press down on the Home button. This will stop the audio and take you back to your home screen. Now swipe up from the bottom of your device to bring up the Control Center, then tap the play button.The audio for the video you were watching will continue to play from where you left off. Not only can you browse through your device, you can even lock the screen and the audio will continue playing in the background. Bright blue light, like that emanating from your iOS device, has a negative effect on your circadian rhythm in the evening, actually preventing the buildup of melatonin — the hormone that anticipates darkness — so that your brain doesn't know it's time to sleep yet. This makes it hard to fall asleep at night.To prevent this blue light from blocking your ability to fall asleep faster, your iPhone's screen needs to move from the cooler end of the color spectrum to the warmer end. You may have to select "Turn On Until 7 AM" on the popup to finish enabling it. Your iPhone will automatically disable Night Shift after 7 a.m. local time, so you don't have to worry about disabling it when you wake up unless you wake up super early (see Step 3 to customize the disable time).

Step 3: Schedule Night Shift ModeIf until 7 a.m. local time is not the time you want to it to turn off, or if you want to schedule a start time so you don't have to remember to manually enable Night Shift when you hit the sack, you can set a day/night or custom schedule instead.Just dive back into the "Night Shift" options in the "Display & Brightness" settings, then toggle on "Scheduled." Next, tap the scheduled timeframe, then choose to either select the start and stop times yourself for a "Custom Schedule" or just hit "Sunset to Sunrise" to go by that instead of the default 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. times.

Step 4: Adjust the Levels to Your LikingAlso in the "Night Shift" settings, you make the effect cooler or warmer depending on your preference. Whether or not Night Shift is currently on, just tap-and-hold on the white circle on the Color Temperature slider, then drag it either left for a cooler look or right for an ever warmer look.
The Control Center Toggle Through the YearsJust in case you're wondering, Apple can't seem to choose a Control Center option for Night Shift. In iOS 9.3 when it was first released, it was a tiny button without a name. When iOS 10 came around, it became a huge bar with name and status loud and clear. Then, iOS 11 hid it inside the volume slider.
