Usually, the only solution is to jailbreak your iPad or iPhone, but that's something most avoid because it will void the warranty and may cause potential bricking issues.In some cases, you don't actually have to jailbreak your iOS device to play some of your favorite retro games. By using a few hacks, you can successfully play NES games, Nintendo DS games, Game Boy Color games, and drum roll please... Game Boy Advance games.You DO NOT need a jailbroken iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch to play your favorite GBA games, and I'm going to show you exactly how to do it, so follow along and ask questions if you need to. Supported Devices for GBA4iOS EmulatorWhile I'm currently running iOS 7 on my iPhone 5 (as you can probably tell in the video), we also tested this GBA emulator out on an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.4 and it worked fine. Also, it should work on other Apple devices like an iPhone 4S running 6.1.3, too. Just test it out on your device to see if it works. No foul if it doesn'tâ€”it's easy to remove.

How to Install the Game Boy Advance EmulatorPreviously, we used Emu4iOS websiteâ€”made available by Justin Adam of PyroFilmsFXâ€”to download GBA4iOS, but it has since been 404'd by hackers.While that site may be shut down, there is an alternative way to install the GBA4iOS application onto your device, by performing the following steps.Apple has blocked the application from downloading, so go to Settings -> General -> Date and Time and change the date to anytime in 2012 before continuing. Open up any web browser on your device and head on over to GBA4iOSkins to download GBA4iOS, made available by OperationiDroid. Scroll down until you see GBA4iOS (the emulator) and press Done. This will prompt a download pop-up. Press Install. The application will now be installed on your device. The emulator doesn't come with any games, so you'll need to download Game Boy Advance ROMs from somewhere online (they're easy to find). When you download it from your browser, you should see the option Open in "GBA4iOSâ€”tap on it. I downloaded Pokemon FireRed because I own that game, which is a prerequisite for downloading game ROMs online legally (if you like following rules or whatever). Many Nexus 6 owners, myself included, have already started to experience the dreaded burn-in issues that often come with AMOLED display technology. These displays are different than your typical LCD screen in that each pixel emits its own light instead of using a backlight, so this leaves AMOLED screens more susceptible to issues with dim or unresponsive pixels.This is particularly true for portions of the screen that display static elementsâ€”Android's navigation bar, for instance. While apps that can revive such burned-in pixels have existed in the past, most of these were written for Samsung devices. And since Samsung is the only manufacturer that still uses physical buttons, on-screen buttons that have become burned-in cannot be treated with these apps.But developer Brendon Sled has a brand new app that can fix all burned-in portions of an AMOLED display since it takes software navigation keys into consideration. It uses Android 5.0's built-in "Invert Colors" function to negate the effects of AMOLED burn-inâ€”and I can personally vouch for its effectiveness as it has cured my own woes. Step 1: Install AMOLED Burn-in FixerSled's app is called AMOLED Burn-in Fixer, and it's available on the Google Play Store for free. Search it by name to get it installed, or use this link to jump straight to the install page.

Step 2: Test for Burn-InAMOLED Burn-in Fixer offers an easy way to test your device for screen burn issues. From the app's main screen, select the "Test Burn-in" tab, then tap the "Hide UI" button. The solid gray background that takes up your entire screen at this point makes it easy to identify burn-in issues. Pay close attention to the navigation and status bar areas, as these are the most susceptible.

Step 3: Fix the Burn-InIf you do indeed have screen burn-in on your device, head back over to the main tab to fix it. From here, you can let the app know whether you're having issues with burn-in on both the navigation and status bars, or just the navigation bar. Next, tap the "Enable Inverted Colors" button, and you'll be taken to an Android settings menu. From here, scroll down a bit, then toggle the switch next to "Color inversion." After that, all of the elements on your screen will look like a photo negative. This is how the effects of burn-in will be reversedâ€”by overlaying an inverted version of the burned-in elements.Since this process will take some time, it would be a good idea to adjust your display timeout. Head to "Settings," then "Display," then set the "Sleep" value to 30 minutes. Back in AMOLED Screen Burn-in Fixer, tap the "Hide Settings" button. At this point, only a negative version of the status bar and navigation bar should be visible. Since your burn-in issues may be more or less extreme than the next guy, there's no perfect timetable as to how long you should leave this screen visible. I'd suggest disabling the inverted colors after 5 minutes, then using the "Test Burn-in" feature to see how much progress has been made.For me, it took about 30 minutes of displaying the inverted screen to get rid of my burn-in issuesâ€”but it worked like a charm! With a rooted device, you can install apps from Google Play that allow for even deeper customization. For example, apps like Hola let you unlock Netflix's full video catalog, and Rec. lets you record video of your screen.You can also flash custom ROMs (operating systems) like AOKP and Firefox OS that can completely change your Android experience, as well as install two totally different systems, and even mods like the LG G2 home launcher.If you've ever wondered how you can change the GPS icon in your status bar or add swipe gestures to the home screen, this is how you do it.The big 'R' word can be intimidating for first timers, but don't let it be! Step 2: Download CF-Auto-Root to Your Windows PCWe're going to use Android developer Chainfire's rooting tool CF-Auto-Root, which will do most of the heavy lifting for us. Take your computer's web browser to this link and download the .zip file from the bottom of the page. Extract the .zip file using an extractor like WinZip or WinRar. It's best to create a new folder for the files you're going to extract and extract them there.
Step 3: Boot Device into Bootloader ModePower down your N5 then boot into bootloader/fastboot mode by holding in the Volume Down and Power key at the same time. You should see a black screen with a picture of the Android mascot on his back.

Step 4: Launch CF-Auto-RootConnect your device to your PC with a micro USB cable. Now navigate to the folder where you unzipped the CF-Auto-Root file. While within the the folder, hold down the Shift key, right-click, then select Open command window here.In the command window type: root-windows.bat

Step 5: Follow the Given InstructionsThe command window will guide you the rest of the way. It will first attempt to unlock your bootloader, a necessary step for rooting.Be warned: if your bootloader is not already unlocked, this process will erase all the data on your device, essentially leaving you with the original factory settings.If you're not sure if your bootloader is locked or unlocked, simply take a look at your device. At the bottom it will either read: Lock State - Unlocked or Lock State - Locked. If you want to unlock your bootloader before continuing, check out my guide before moving forward.
