In one of Apple's newer ads, the company claims that "more photos are taken with the iPhone than any other camera." Those pictures can add up quickly, though, using a lot of much needed space on your iPhone. Eventually, you'll have to store them somewhere else, like your computer, external drive or online storage locker. But what happens to all of those pictures we accidentally delete or forget to backup before dropping the iPhone in toilet water?Here are some ways to get those pictures back and prevent them from ever being lost again.
Preemptive StrikeThe first thing you should do with your phone, or any electronic device, is set up a backup routine. There are so many free services and ways to store and backup all your information that there really isn't a good excuse not to.

Manually Back Up to Your ComputerUsing your computer is probably the easiest way to store your photos. All you need to do is plug your iPhone into your computer using the standard USB or Lightning cord, or using Wi-Fi syncing (if enabled). If installed, iTunes will start automatically. If you don't have iTunes you can download it here. Image via staticflickr.com From iTunes, you can sync, restore, or backup your phone. But if you just want to save your photos, you can use iPhoto or Image Capture on a Mac, or Photos or Windows Photo Viewer on a Windows PC. You can import all of your photos or select certain ones and then delete them off your phone to free up some space.

Automatically Back Up to iCloudApple's own iCloud storage system can be set up in just a few minutes. This is ideal if you don't want to take up space on your phone or computer. To enable iCloud on your iPhone, go to Settings and find the iCloud icon.Sign in with your Apple ID or create a new one, then enable iCloud backups. Once enabled, you can manage which items you want included on your iCloud backup, and turn on your Camera Roll. For more information, check out this Apple support page. With iCloud enabled, all images taken with your iPhone will automatically be uploaded to your iCloud account. Your free account comes with 5GB of free storage with the option of upgrading to as much as 50GB for 100 bucks a year.Now, even if you delete photos off of your phone or lose it, all those images will be on your latest iCloud backup. Of course, if you backup your phone AFTER deleting the pictures you wanted to recover, you're kinda screwed.

Beware of Photo StreamPhoto Stream is a cool feature that automatically pushes photos taken from your iPhone to all your other Photo Stream enabled devices—Apple TV, iPad, and Mac computers. But, I have seen a few of my friends delete photos from Photo Stream on their iPhones, assuming the pictures would remain on the other devices. This is NOT the case. Once a picture is removed from the Photo Stream, it is removed from ALL your synced devices. You can avoid this mistake by saving the photos in a folder on your computer. Just drag and drop those "My Photo Stream" pictures into another folder. It's as simple as that. And since you took these photos on your iPhone, they will automatically be saved in the Camera Roll. Deleting the photo stream on your iPhone will not remove the images from your Camera Roll.

Manually Back Up with DropBoxDropBox is one of the most popular file hosting services that allows users to upload music, photos, and video. When you sign up for an account, you get 2GB of online storage for free. There are also Pro and Business plans available, but 2GB should be plenty if you're just looking for a place to keep your iPhone photos. Sign up for your free account and start uploading pictures right off your iPhone. If you get enough friends to join Dropbox, you could get up to 18GB of free storage space, 500MB per referral. So, if you're frequently taking photos, that's the route to take.

Manually Back Up with Google DriveUsing Google Drive, you have access to 15GB of free storage. That storage space does include your Gmail messages, files and attachments, so that is something to keep in mind. Even still, space should not be a problem. You can use Google Drive on your computer from within your Gmail account in the top menu. You can also download the Google Drive iPhone app so you can upload your photos directly from your phone instead of having to drop them onto your computer beforehand.

Manually Back Up with FlickrIf you take a serious amount of photos, it might be a good idea to look into Flickr, especially since they now offer 1TB of free online storage for photos and videos. They have an iPhone app that's really easy to use. Images via mzstatic.com
Automatically Back Up with MyShoeboxIf you want another automatic option for backing up, there's an online cloud storage service called MyShoebox that will automatically backup your Camera Roll on your iPhone to your MyShoebox account via the iPhone app.
They do have free accounts with unlimited storage, but they automatically resize all of your images to screen resolution (no longer than 1024 pixels on the longest side), so if you want the original resolution, you'll have to upgrade to a paid account.
Recovering Deleted PhotosNow, if you lost your photos before you had a chance to use any of these methods, there are some options to get them back. These options are for iPhone users who deleted photos that were ONLY saved on their iPhone and not stored or backed up anywhere else.

Recover Photos with PhotoRecPhotoRec is an open-source data recovery software, created to restore lost files, photos and videos. It has been tested on the iPod touch and works like a dream. However, in order for it to work, your iPhone must be jailbroken. It needs access to locked files and the iPhone subsystem, which is locked on non-jailbroken iPhones. Recover Photos with iPhone Backup ExtractorUsing the iPhone Backup Extractor, you can recover lost or deleted files by exploiting iTunes' built-in backup system. Each time you sync your phone to iTunes, iTunes stores a backup of all your data in its system. Using the extractor, you can recover contacts, pictures, call histories, text messages, app files, and even saved games.You can download the free version of the Backup Extractor here. After selecting it, you will be prompted to choose a save location. The photos will be exported to that destination and you can then add those photos back onto your iPhone.

Recover Photos with EaseusEaseus is very similar to iPhone Backup Extractor. It also recovers lost data from your iTunes backups.After you download and and launch Easeus, it will scan your computer for any previous iPhone backups. Recover Photos with Tenorshare Data RecoveryIf worse comes to worst, you may have to buy a product like Tenorshare Date Recovery. It does come with a free trial, but it limits what you can recover. The Mac version is originally $159.95 but is currently on sale for $79.95, and the Windows version, originally $119.95, is $59.95 until July 31st.
Word of Caution...Again, purchasing expensive data recovery software like this is a last resort method. There are many other paid options online as well. Just Google "iPhone data recovery" and you will have a whole list to choose from, but I would always go for free first, especially if you're concerned about the integrity of the recovery software. Step 2: Enable the ServiceNext, open Fingerprint Quick Action, then tick the "Enable" box at the top of the screen. Next, touch your fingerprint sensor, then you'll be prompted to enable an extra permission. So turn on the "Allow modify system settings" option, then you'll be finished with initial setup.

Step 3: Adjust OptionsYou may be concerned about accidentally touching your fingerprint scanner and locking your phone inadvertently, but the developer thought of that one. If you enable "Response enrolled fingerprints only," the app will only lock your screen when you place one of your registered fingertips directly on the scanner.Then, to make sure that the app doesn't get closed by Android's memory management system, I'd recommend that you head to the "Non-Xposed mode settings" menu, then enable the "Foreground service" option. This will add a notification to your pull-down shade, but it doesn't show an icon in your status bar, and it ensures that the app is always running and ready.

Step 4: Enable the Root Helper (Optional)If you're a rooted user, there's an additional setting that you'll probably want to enable. Because of a security feature in Android, any time an app locks your screen using Device Administrator privileges, you'll be prompted to enter your PIN the next time you wake your phone. This means that when you put your phone to sleep with the fingerprint sensor, you'll have to type in your PIN before you can unlock again.So to avoid that, Fingerprint Quick Action can simulate a power button press using root access. To enable this feature, head to the "Non-Xposed mode settings" menu, then choose "Screen off method," and set it to "Simulating a power button press (ROOT)." From there, just tap "Grant" on the Superuser access request.
Step 5: Put Your Phone to Sleep Using the Fingerprint ScannerWith everything set up now, you're ready to try out the main functionality. When you want to put your phone to sleep, just place your finger on the fingerprint scanner, and the screen will turn off. If you're a non-rooted user, you'll have to enter your PIN the next time you wake your device, but that's a small price to pay for such awesome and simple functionality.

If you store important, sensitive information on your iPhone in Notes, you'll want to be more careful. When Notes syncs across your iPad and Mac via iCloud — devices that family members or coworkers may share — you run the risk of having your notes read, edited, and deleted by other people. Such a catastrophe is easily avoided.There are a few options for protecting your sensitive notes when more than one device is logged into your account. You can keep notes only on your iPhone so that they never sync to your other devices, you can lock your notes with a password so only you can access them, or you can turn off syncing on your iPhone or your other devices.Don't Miss: How to Pin Important Notes to the Top of Folders

Option 1: Keep Notes Only on Your iPhoneThis option is the easiest solution if you need to keep a particular set of notes solely on your iPhone. Everything in this folder will not sync to your iPad or Mac since it's stored locally.Open up the Settings app, scroll down and tap on "Notes," then toggle on the "'On My iPhone' Account" setting. When setting up your iPhone for the first time, if you did not log into or use iCloud, "On My iPhone" is already toggled on for Notes (as that would be the only folder available in the app). Using "Lock Note" is an excellent solution if you need to protect a few notes that can be synced to your other devices but otherwise want to have transparency with the rest. Option 3: Don't Sync Your Notes with iCloudAll notes between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac can be kept separate by turning off Notes syncing in iCloud. You can turn off iCloud syncing for your iPhone only, turn off iCloud syncing for your iPad and Mac only, or turn off iCloud syncing for all devices. However, we only recommend the first option, since anyone with access to your other devices can turn iCloud syncing back on without any credentials.To turn it off on your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name up top, select "iCloud," then toggle off "Notes." On the prompt, tap "Delete from My iPhone" to erase all the iCloud notes from your device. By doing so, you're only erasing them from your iPhone, so don't worry — all your iCloud notes will still be stored in iCloud. However, you may want to move sensitive iCloud notes to your iPhone's local storage first (see Option 1 above).Don't Miss: How to Customize Note's Paper Style with Lines or Grids In a scenario where all devices must be logged into iCloud, you can have your iPhone logged into a different iCloud account than the iPad and Mac, like one designated strictly for business use. But this becomes complicated if other apps and data synced via iCloud (i.e., Photos, Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Safari) need to be made available across all devices (as in sharing devices with family members). It is likely best to keep things simple and stick to a single iCloud account for your own devices and turn off Notes syncing for your iPhone to maintain privacy.Finally, although locally stored notes on your iPhone are not synced across devices, they are still backed up with iCloud when "iCloud Backup" is toggled on in your iCloud settings. If you use iTunes to create iPhone backups instead, your notes will be stored in the backup on your computer. The XL just felt big and unwieldy, and because the screens were larger (with the same resolution), it ended up looking blurrier than the regular 3DS. This, to a less severe extent, is the argument for the Galaxy S9 against the Note 8.The main difference between these arguments is that the 3DS XL was essentially a copy of the 3DS, only larger. Alternatively, the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy S9 are not copies of one another — however, they are quite similar. The Galaxy S6 Edge comes with a useful feature called Information stream that allows you to view quick tidbits of info with a quick back-and-forth swipe on the edge of your display while the screen is off. Apparently, Samsung left the door open for third-party plugins to use this feature, and now we're starting to see an influx of useful additions.Developer trailblazer101 might just have the most useful Information stream add-on yet. It allows you to control music playback without having to fully wake your device, and it's pretty simple to install, too. Just make sure you have "Unknown sources" enabled in your phone's Settings under "Lock screen and security" before you begin. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Step 1: Install MusicPlayer FeedThis particular Information stream feed is not available on the Google Play Store, so it will have to be sideloaded. To begin, point your phone's web browser to this link, and the file will start downloading automatically. When that's finished, tap the "Download complete" notification to launch the file. From here, press "Install," and when that's finished, tap "Done."

Step 2: Enable the Notification ServiceWith the new Information stream feed installed, you'll have to enable its notification listener service next. So head to your phone's Settings menu to select "Lock screen and security," then scroll down and tap the "Other security settings" option. Next, scroll down again and tap "Notification access," then tap the "MusicPlayer Cocktail Feed" entry and press "OK" on the popup.

Step 3: Activate the New Information Stream FeedWith that taken care of, it's time to activate the new feed. Head back to your phone's main Settings menu, then select the "Edge screen" option to begin. On the next page, scroll down a bit and tap the "Information stream" option, then make sure the feature is turned on and select "Manage feeds." On the next screen, scroll all the way to the right to find the newly-installed feed. From here, tick the box at the top of this entry to activate it.

Step 4: Control Music from the Information Stream FeedThis Information stream feed should be compatible with any music player app, so start playing some music, then turn your screen off. From here, swipe back and forth on the right edge of your display, then swipe to the right to see your music player controls.
